Southampton Maritime Museum
The Maritime Museum is on Town Quay Road , in the medieval building known as the Wool House. It was Southampton's first public museum and was opened in 1912. The museum contains displays relating to Southampton's history as a trading and passenger port. There is a collection of large model ships, including a model of the Queen Mary.
The museum houses a large number of items relating to the Titanic disaster. One item donated was the Royal Naval Reserve dress sword belonging to Captain Smith of the Titanic presented by his widow Eleanor on the first anniversary of the disaster. Letters, telegrams, keys and other personal belongings of crewmembers are also on display. The museum also displays original material from Titanic's sister ship, Olympic, including the panel 'Honour and Glory Crowning Time'.
